Talking to Collider about the upcoming film and its new setting, Barrera said that the setting in New York City is much more “mortifying” than in a place like Woodsboro due to the sheer size of the city combined with how everyone mostly does their own thing.

“It’s 20 times more horrifying,” Barrera said. “It’s terrible. Because you also see how in a city like New York City everyone is doing their own thing and someone screams for help and no one wants to help them. There’s no one coming to help them, you know , like everybody’s kind of like, ‘I’m not into that.’ So it’s scary because you’re being chased by Ghostface, but you’re also seeing humanity and how it reacts in a situation like that. I think at least , that I have probably already said too much.”

The film will feature recurring cast members from the 2022s Scream including Melissa Barrera (Vida), Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Mason Gooding (Book smart), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The rest), and Samara Weaving (Ready or not). They are joined by franchise newcomers Delmot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda and Josh Segarra.
