During Friday’s Disney and Marvel Games showcase, a remaster of the fan favorite Gargoyles video game was announced.
The game will be developed by Empty Clip Studios (via IGN), a study that has recently been worked on The streets of Kamurochoa beat ’em up game that acted as a mashup between Streets of Rage 2 and Yakuza series. This title was released as freeware by Sega in 2020 to celebrate the studio’s 60th anniversary.
While not too much was revealed during the show, IGN mentions it as well Gargoyles Remastered is currently scheduled to release on console and PC with updated graphics and controls. However, no official release date or other features have been announced yet, so fans will have to wait for more information as development progresses.
Originally released in 1995 for the Sega Genesis, Gargoyles was a platform game based on the popular Disney animated series of the same name. In the game, players controlled Goliath, one of the gargoyles, as they battled to defeat the Eye of Odin, a magical talisman that transforms people who touch it. The game itself was relatively short, lasting only five levels – each with its own boss fight – but was well received at the time of its launch.
The news of a Gargoyles remaster also comes shortly after series creator Greg Weisman said he was working on bringing the property back to life in comic book form. In July, Weisman tweeted out that he was working on a new one Gargoyles comic for Dynamite Comics and Disney, giving fans some hope that a future revival of the show could also happen.
