HBO has renewed the hit series Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin for a second season, the company announced.
In a statement about the news, co-creators Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring said they were “thrilled” by the news and excited to get started on the upcoming season.
“We are very excited to continue telling stories with our amazing group of Little Liars – exploring their friendships, their romances, their secrets and their status as scream queens! Eternal thanks to the fans who embraced this new horror version of Pretty Little Liars to itself — which we obviously continue to do — as well as our partners at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television and affiliate entertainment. As Tabby would say, ‘There’s a sequel coming!'”
Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, also said they are proud to bring the show back. “We are so proud of the incredible response both critically and from fans.” Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin have received,” said Aubrey. “Viewers have embraced our new generation of Liars and Roberto and Lindsay’s brilliantly dark, horror-infused take on this iconic franchise. Together with Alloy and Warner Bros. TV, we’re thrilled to continue Pretty Little Liars legacy.”
Based on the best-selling series of books by Sara Shepard, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin led by Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles and Maia Reficco. Joining them are Mallory Bechtel, Sharon Leal, Elena Goode, Lea Salonga, Eric Johnson and Alex Aiono.
“Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events nearly tore the ordinary town of Millwood apart,” reads the synopsis. “Now, in the present day, a disparate group of teenage girls—a whole new set of Little Liars—find themselves tormented by an unknown assailant and forced to pay for the secret sin committed by their parents two decades ago…as well as their own.In the dark, coming-of-age, horror-tinged drama, we find ourselves miles away from Rosewood, but within the existing Pretty Little Liars universe – in a brand new city with a new generation of Little Liars.”
Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is written and executive produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring. It is produced by Aguirre-Sacasa’s Muckle Man Productions and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television. Original series creator I. Marlene King, Michael Grassi, Caroline Baron and Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo also serve as executive producers.
