A recent report from Toy World magazine suggests that a brand new AAA game featuring the iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could be released in the near future.
The latest issue of the magazine (via Fan exchange) has a section in it discussing the upcoming Brand Licensing London convention, an event where a variety of brands come together to showcase their plans. The magazine mentions that Paramount’s plans for the show include discussing an upcoming AAA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, which is said to be released in 2023.
Of course, there’s no official information out about the title or what it might be yet, but it would be a bit off the recent norm if it turns out to be true. That Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has stayed away from high-budget AAA titles in recent years, with developers instead often sticking to mobile-focused or more arcade-based experiences. The last major console TMNT game was PlatinumGames’ TMNT: Mutants in Manhattanwhich was widely panned when it was released in 2016 with some of the studio’s lowest-rated reviews.
But because of the boom Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles popularity over the past few years, and with a brand new movie — Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem — which is due for release in 2023, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Paramount try to capitalize on the excitement with a more ambitious game.
The announcement also comes just after Paramount released another game based on the iconic group of turtles, the compilation game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection recently came out at the end of August and features a handful of games featuring the crime-fighting heroes in a half-shell.
