The cast of Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming epic Megalopolis continues to grow, which Deadline reports that six new actors, including Shia LaBeouf, have joined the project.
Alongside LaBeouf, Talia Shire (The Godfather), Jason Schwartzman (The French broadcast), Grace Vanderwaal (Star girl), Kathryn Hunter (The Tragedy of Macbeth), and James Remar (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) are the newest additions to a cast that already has some big names, including Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne and Aubrey Plaza.
Follow allegations of sexual abuse, assault and numerous other allegations, LaBeouf has recently come out and said that he is sober and hopes to improve his life, as well as be what he calls “a billboard for a principled way of living.” His upcoming credits include a role in Abel Ferrara’s 2022 film Padre Pioas well as Dito Montiel’s drama After exile.
Talia Shire, Coppola’s sister, is no stranger to working with her brother, having starred in both The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, the latter of which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Jason Schwartzman is set to star in Wes Anderon’s upcoming film Asteroid city and also appears in the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse the film, as well as the prequel film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Vanderwaal is a musician and actress, and her most notable role comes in the Disney+ movie Star girlas well as its successor Hollywood Stargirl. Kathryn Hunter is a legendary stage actress and Oliver Award winner who will appear in the upcoming sci-fi romance film Poor things from Yorgos Lanthimos, as well as recently announced The front room for the Eggers brothers.
James Remar has also had a long and distinguished career in Hollywood, starring in The warriors, Miracle on 34th Street, Sex and the City, and in numerous other films and television series. His next film will be Megalopolisalthough he most recently appeared in The Rookie and Black Lightning.
Megapolis has been Coppola’s passion project since the 1980s. Set in present-day America, it supposedly centers around the aftermath of a devastating disaster, where an architect wants to rebuild New York City as a utopia. The 82-year-old filmmaker has confirmed that the story will explore current themes while also featuring Roman epic influences.
