The future of DC’s upcoming films remains up in the air following the ongoing shake-up at Warner Bros. Discovery, and a new report from Variety suggests that only one future film is guaranteed right now.
In a recent overview of what the future may hold for Warner Bros., Variety’s Adam B. Vary and Brent Lang note that so far only one DC film has currently been greenlit following the Warner Bros. merger. and discovery – Joker: Folie à DeuxTodd Phillips’ upcoming sequel to his Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. But just because only one film has been greenlit doesn’t mean more won’t.
The report goes on to mention that Matt Reeves, following his recent overall deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, continues to work on the sequel to the 2022 hit film Batmanwith the expectation that it will be green lit when that time comes.
Other places for the company, Batman spin-off centered around Colin Farrell’s Penguin character is also still in development, as is the second season of James Gunn’s Peacemaker. The report mentions that the future of animated series such as Harley Quinn and live-action shows like Titans and Doom Patrol are still unclear.
While new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has previously stated that he wants to build one Marvel Cinematic Universe-like world for DC movies, it is unclear when it will become a reality. With both Joker sequel and Batman takes place in their own respective universes, as well as Warner Bros.
