Lisa Frankenstein: Carla Gugino and more join horror comedy film

When production begins Lisa Frankenstein in New Orleans, Deadline brings word that Focus Features has recruited four new cast members to join the previously announced leads of Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse.

The Haunting of Hill House star Carla Gugino and Filipino-American actress Liza Soberano (Alone together) has been tapped to star in Zelda Williams’ upcoming horror comedy alongside Joe Chrest (Stranger Things) and Henry Eikenberry (The crowded room).

Lisa Frankenstein is written by Oscar winner Diablo Cody. Set in 1989, the film follows an unpopular high school student who “accidentally revives a beautiful Victorian corpse during a lightning storm and begins to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage,” according to the logline.

Cody is producing alongside Mason Novick, with Jeff Lampert set as executive producer and Focus Features’ VP of Production and Development Michelle Momplaisir as creative executive.

Newton is best known for his supporting roles in films such as Lady Bird, Block, Ben is backand Detective Pikachu. Her first starring role was in Blumhouse’s slasher comedy Freaky. She is set to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut next year Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniawho portrays the role of Cassie Lang.

Cole Sprouse found success early in his career after appearing as a child actor in Friendsand even starring in his own iconic Disney Channel series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. years after the conclusion of Suite life on deckSprouse went on to star in The CW’s Riverdale like Jughead. He was most recently seen in the HBO Max romantic sci-fi comedy Moonshot.
