With the long awaited One Piece Movie: Red set to premiere in Japan this week, the film’s official website announced that special tie-in episodes for the film would also air this month.
Two new episodes will air throughout the month of August, releasing on August 14 and 21, 2022 respectively. The episodes will serve as a cohesive prologue to the film and will depict moments from up to 10 years prior to its events, showing a younger Luffy and Uta hanging around Shanks’ Red Hair Pirates. Other young versions of One piece favorites are also featured, including Nami, Zoro and more.
One piece‘s next film will focus on Shanks, the captain of the Red Hair Pirates and one of the Four Emperors. Shanks is an important part of the series’ history, as he inspired the main character Monkey D. Luffy to become a pirate and gave him the straw hat that he now wears.
“Uta is the most beloved singer in the world. Known for hiding her own identity when she performs, her voice has been described as ‘otherworldly,'” reads the official synopsis for the film. “Now, for the first time, Uta will ever reveal themselves to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all manner of Uta fans – excited pirates, the fleet watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance – the voice the whole world has been waiting for is about to ring out. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks’ daughter.”
One Piece Movie: Red is directed by Goro Taniguchi (Code Geass) with a script written by Kuroiwa Tsuto (One piece movie Gold). The creator of One piece, Eiichiro Oda, is an executive producer for the film. The film premieres on August 6, 2022 in Japan.
