Bong Joon-Ho’s next directorial project Mickey7 begins production

According to Collider (via KFTV), production of Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho’s upcoming sci-fi drama film adaptation, Mickey 7, has finally started in the UK at Leavesden Studios. The film will be directed by Robert Pattinson alongside Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie and Steven Yeun, who previously collaborated with the director on Netflix’s Okay.

The project will be based on Edward Ashton’s Mickey 7 novel. It will be written and directed by Bong Joon-Ho. Producers are Bong for Offscreen, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner for Plan B and Dooho Choi for Kate Street Picture Company.

That Mickey 7 novel centers on an Expendable, which the synopsis describes as “a one-time member of a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world of Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration, they die , a new body is regenerated with most of its memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal … and why it was the only colonial position unoccupied when he took it.”

This marks Pattinson’s first project after the successful theatrical release of Batman, which saw his debut as DC’s newest version of the Dark Knight. He is expected to reprise his role as the superhero in upcoming sequelwhich was announced during CinemaCon.
