Hulu has revealed an official trailer for Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers, the upcoming documentary series revolving around the history of the Los Angeles Lakers from the Showtime era to its current place in the NBA. It will be available for streaming on August 15.
The trailer, which you can check out below, features interviews with popular LA Lakers players, including Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James, as well as other basketball figures.
Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers will feature exclusive access to the Buss family and probing, revealing interviews with players, coaches and front office executives, the series tells this extraordinary story from the inside – told only by the people who lived it.
“The docuseries captures the remarkable rise and unprecedented success of one of the most dominant and iconic franchises in professional sports,” reads the synopsis. “When charismatic real estate magnate Dr. Jerry Buss bought the Los Angeles Lakers in a wildly risky and complex business deal, no one could have predicted the success that would follow. The infamous LA playboy started the ‘Showtime’ era in 1979 and pioneered for basketball. He raised the price of floor seats, introduced dancers and a live band, opened an exclusive private club inside the arena and cultivated famous fans in Hollywood. Over the past 40 years, the team captured 11 titles and retired the jerseys of some of the NBA’s most legendary players.
Today, Dr. Buss’ empire is now worth more than $5 billion. But all that success did not come easily. Along with infamous feuds, career-ending illnesses and a series of insurmountable obstacles on the court, the Lakers have also dealt with intense drama off the court—within Dr. Bus’s own family. It’s a 10-part docuseries that comes from Antoine Fuqua, who serves as director and executive producer. Jeanie Buss, the Lakers’ current CEO and controlling owner, is also an executive producer.
Executive producers are Haven Entertainment’s Kevin Mann, Michael Mann and Brendan Bragg, Los Angeles Media Fund’s (LAMF) Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman and longtime Lakers senior executive Linda Rambis. Rounding out the team are Emmy-winning editors Jake Pushinsky and executive producer/writer Steven Leckart.
