Talking to CartoonHead of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios Brian Winderbaum revealed that the upcoming five-episode series will take place between the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the post-credits scene in the second film, which shows Groot having already become a teenage version of himself.

“It’s a narrow window, isn’t it? It actually takes place between the end of Guardian 2 and bring in the rooftop scene Guardian 2. So it is in this narrow window where Groot [is] in that sort of post-toddler stage of development,” Winderbaum said. “And that was something that really excited James [Gunn] and also, James knew too [Kirsten Lepore]’s work and was also excited to work with her.”

Of course because the window of time with Groot is as small as he is in it I’m Groot and Guardians not being involved in any MCU events is small, the team behind the series had to find the perfect window to fit the series into, and it looks like they did.
