MGM is developing a spin-off of Creed movie based on Ivan Drago’s character, according to a recent report from Variety.
The movie, just the title Drago from now on will be written by Robert Lawton. He got the job after impressing MGM with his spec script Becoming Rockya script that focused on the making of the original Rocky movie. Becoming Rocky never ended up being made, but MGM brought Lawton into it Rocky world to write Drago.
“I’m incredibly humbled and grateful for this opportunity, and I approach it as a huge fan of Rocky franchise, who happens to be a screenwriter,” Lawton said in a statement to Variety.
Although it is unclear exactly what Drago will be about, it is supposed to have the son of the iconic Ivan Drago (played by Dolph Lundgren in Rocky IV), Viktor Drago, who appeared in the 2018 film Creed II. Jordan), son of Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), in a match that ends in a bloody finale with Creed winning after Ivan Drago throws in the towel in the ring for him dream
Despite the film’s name and likely setting, it is unknown whether either Lundgren or Florian Munteanu, who played Viktor Drago in Creed II, returning to their roles as Dragos. Currently, Munteanu is set to return as Viktor in the future Creed IIIalthough his role in the film is also currently unknown.
