Netflix’s Pinocchio Teaser Trailer: Guillermo del Toro Reimagines the Tale

Netflix has released the official teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, the upcoming stop-motion animated fantasy featuring the voices of an all-star cast, including Ewan McGregor as Sebastian J. Cricket. The film is scheduled to debut in November in select theaters, followed by its streaming release in December on Netflix.

The video, which you can watch below along with the key art poster, shows Cricket as he tells the classic story of an imperfect father’s love and the magic that brought a wooden boy to life.

Described as a recreation of the classic tale, Netflix’s Pinocchio is a stop-motion animated musical that will follow the adventures of a wooden boy in his search for a place in the world. It will feature a star-studded voice ensemble led by newcomer Gregory Mann as the titular tree boy, Ewan McGregor as Jiminy Cricket and David Bradley as Geppetto.

“Set during the rise of fascism in Mussolini’s Italy, the film is a story of love and disobedience as Pinocchio struggles to live up to his father’s expectations,” the logline reads.

Additional cast members include Academy Award winners Tilda Swinton (Isle of Dogs), Christoph Waltz (Epic), and Cate Blanchett (How to train your dragon film) together with Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), John Turturro (Batman), Ron Perlman (Hell boy), Tim Blake Nelson (Guardians) and Burn Gorman (Enola Holmes).

Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro, who has been attached to the project since 2018, is co-directing Pinocchio together with Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox). It was written by Del Toro and Patrick McHale, with a score by Alexandre Desplat. It comes from The Jim Henson Company, which worked with Netflix in 2019 The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

The producers are del Toro, The Jim Henson Company’s Lisa Henson & Blanca Lista, ShadowMachine’s Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico, Exile Entertainment’s Gary Ungar and Gris Grimly.
