Tim Roth returns to the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe later this year, reprising his role as Emil Blonsky/Abomination in She-Hulk: Lawyer. Speaking to ComingSoon about it, Roth talked about the changes to the Abomination creature and more.
“The ‘new’ look … it’s so funny because when I saw it I was like ‘oh’ because it’s closer to the actual comics,” Roth said when asked how he felt about to see the new version of Abomination at Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. “It’s closer to how he was. Originally he was underwater. He could breathe underwater, he had gills. All that was [a] very interesting mix of monster and human. I found that fascinating. That was something we didn’t put into the first movie. So the makeover is… I don’t know if it’s changed from the last movie [Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings] to She-Hulk, it may have even evolved a little bit from there. I’m not sure. I am not sure what they have done. They’re still working on it.”
Roth also spoke about the recent outpouring of support he received after appearing in Shang-Chiand said he was “flattered” by the outpouring of love from fans after Abomination briefly appeared in a fight scene against none other than Benedict Wong’s Wong.
“I was pretty flattered,” Roth said. “I thought it was really nice, you know? When they asked me if I would consider coming back and playing that role, I was like, ‘Yes!’ I did it for my kids, that’s why I did it in the beginning, and [it’s] still the same. I told them about it and they said, ‘Oh, you’re doing this.’ Okay, I’ll do this. It happens quite often. It happened with Resurrection. My son read the script and said, ‘You’re doing this.’ Okay. And I had nothing to say in the matter. I’m so glad I did. I took his advice.”
Roth also praised Tatiana Maslany, who stars in the series as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk, as well as Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner, in the upcoming series, noting that he had seen the recently released San Diego Comic-Con trailer. and loved it.
“I don’t usually watch things, but I watched the trailer because my kids told me, ‘You have to watch this trailer. It’s a great trailer.’ So I saw the Marvel trailer,” Roth said. “I loved the woman who played the lead in it. She’s extraordinary. Mark Ruffalo is also funny. So we had a lot of fun.”
