Hulu has released the first teaser for Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers, a brand new sports documentary series starting to stream sometime this year. The video teases exclusive interviews from both past and present players, including basketball personalities, while discussing the Lakers’ Showtime era and the legacy they have built under the supervision of Dr. Jerry Buss.
Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers is a 10-part documentary series coming from Antoine Fuqua who works as a director and executive producer. Jeanie Buss, the Lakers’ current CEO and controlling owner, is also an executive producer.
The series offers exclusive access to the Buss family and exploration, revealing interviews with players, coaches and front office managers, and the series tells about this extraordinary story from within – told only by the people who lived it.
“The docu-series captures the remarkable progress and unprecedented success of one of the most dominant and iconic franchises in professional sports,” reads the synopsis. “When charismatic real estate tycoon Dr. Jerry Buss bought the Los Angeles Lakers into a wildly risky and complex business deal, no one could have foreseen how successful it would be. At the beginning of the ‘Showtime’ era in 1979, the infamous LA playboy pioneer in basketball. He raised the price of floor seats, introduced dancers and a live band, opened an exclusive private club inside the arena and cultivated famous fans in Hollywood.Over the last 40 years the team won 11 titles and scrapped jerseys from some of The NBA’s most legendary players.
Today, Dr. Buss’ empire is now worth more than $ 5 billion. But all that success did not come easily. Along with infamous feuds, end-of-career illnesses and a series of insurmountable obstacles on the field, the Lakers have also coped with intense drama off the field – within Dr. Bus own family. Dr. Buss gave his children front office jobs with the understanding that one day they would inherit his kingdom. But sibling rivalry, interpersonal conflict, and corporate unrest threatened to destroy everything that Dr. Bus worked so hard to build. Ultimately, Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers is about family, business and power – and how all three must be exploited to achieve greatness. “
