My 2022 Summer Bucket List: 20 Things I Want To Do This Season | Knowledge and joy

One rarely talked about benefit of having children is that they help you get back in touch with the simple joys of summer. In my twenties and early thirties I was guilty of letting time slip by, making last minute plans and only enjoying the spontaneity of living from day to day. There have been summers I was so busy traveling and working that they would pass by in an instant.

As I get older, I have realized that there are benefits to balancing both ways of living – to consciously work towards making plans a reality, while also having room to whistle it. My hope is that the bucket list I have put together here will allow for a bit of both.

Min 2022 Summer Bucket List

  1. Keep my herbs alive all summer long.
  2. Hold at least one proper outdoor party in our backyard.
  3. Hold a great birthday party for August.
  4. Host a collage party. Creating something new can be the primary reason to meet.
  5. Visit some museums.
  6. Visit my parents in Chicago.
  7. Play tennis.
  8. Continue my morning routine, with alone time to start each day. (You can read my step-by-step morning routine here!)
  9. Stargazing with August.
  10. Learn to make ribs.
  11. Shop as much as possible at farmers’ market.
  12. Spend as much time as possible at the pool.
  13. Camp with the kids in the backyard.
  14. Try some of the new restaurants in town with Joe for date nights.
  15. Try something new for me outside like paddleboarding or kayaking.
  16. Make ice lollies.
  17. Enjoy every single thunderstorm.
  18. Write a little every day. I’ve wanted to do this for a while, but it keeps getting put on the back burner.
  19. Keep an eye on how I spend my days, to have a better relationship with the passage of time.
  20. Take more pictures. I have been away from my phone more often because it tends to stress me out. The process of taking pictures used to be something I loved and I would love to return to that.

What’s on your summer bucket list this year?
