The hunt: Classic and stylish skirts for work – Corporatette.com

Yes, we all know what wardrobe essentials for work professional women are supposed to have in their closets, but if you’re buying one for the first time or replacing one you’ve worn down, finding just the right incarnation in stores can be a pain. in “the hunt,” we search the stores for a basic item that every woman should have.

Here’s something we haven’t been hunting for in ages: a hunt for skirts for work. I’m always a little surprised that there are so many pencil skirts in our top buys for each month — Ann Taylor pencil skirt is a big hit, so there’s that Calvin Klein. I’m going to list some of our favorite basic, classic pencil skirts below – but I thought I’d go on the hunt for some more fun personality skirts. What are you looking for in a skirt in 2022, readers – pockets? a flared/A-line shape? a mini length? structure?

The best classic pencil skirts for work

Trendy, stylish skirts for work

one of the most stylish skirts for work in 2022: a funky, silky skirt from Target brand Ava & Viv in a blue check pattern

I was a bit surprised to see how many flippy skirts are out there right now – but there are A LOT. If you strongly prefer A-line or ruffle skirts to pencil skirts, now is your chance to stock up. This one from Ava & Viv is really cute and, I think, the perfect length — it’s $25 and available in three colors at Target in sizes X-4X.

Talbots had a proper A-line skirt, while Land’s End had a lot of box pleats and other A-line styles—both, amazingly, available in regular, petite, plus, and plus-size petites.

When it comes to flipper styles, length (for me) is everything – eg. this one from Susana Monaco at 5″ above the knee on the model is a little too short, but I would buy it because I am on the short side, so it would probably be fine for me. Ceiling has a ton of these really-cute-but-possibly-too-short styles right now, too. (Tights would be great here too!)

On the flip side, some of the longer styles or fuller styles can feel a bit ladies-who-lunch, at least on the model – so keep that in mind when trying them on yourself – I would include tea skirt from Susana Monaco or this almost 50s style skirt from the Amazon seller Give way. Some of the other great options include this flouncy style from MM LaFleurthis washable option from Hobbsand this beautiful one from Akris Punto. On the more affordable side, this wrap skirt is off Alfani is fantastic, and target sellers 24 seven and Allegra K both have a wealth of colorful options.

one of the most stylish skirts for work in 2022: a sweater skirt from Boden in green with buttons on the side

Another style that’s rich with possibilities right now: the sweater skirt. These can be tricky because they can be sticky and static – a silky smooth substrate like one slide or slip shorts is essential to make them comfortable, IMHO. (You can also bring shapewear if you want or try one static electricity spray.) The primary risk with these is that they might be a little too va-va-va-voom for work, so know your office and measure the skirt with that in mind.

But the biggest benefit of sweater skirts: they’re absolutely fantastic for adding textural interest, especially to a monotonous outfit.

I love it from The floor (above, available in green and black for $130; this one from Ava & Viv and this one from Banana Republic Factory are also fantastic.

If you love MM LaFleur‘s jardigan, they now have a skirt in that option (jardigan material). I’m also a big fan of these skirts from Halogen, Polo Ralph Lauren (then AND!!), and TSE Cashmere.

one of the best skirts for work in 2022: a colorful blue and white pencil skirt from natori

I don’t normally think of Natori for skirts (great underwear though!) – but this fun abstract print is calling my name, possibly because I’ve been hunting for wallpaper like this. Anyhoo: I like how the print is abstract and geometric but not seizure-inducing, and I like that there’s a hint of stretch. It’s $275 at Nordstrom.

Other great skirts in this price range include classics from Black Halo and Boss, as well as fun prints like this flippy knit midi from Cefinnthis leopard print pencil skirt from Kate Spadethis colorful cashmere midi skirt from Paigeand this funny streaked off Paige (picture at the very top).

one of the best skirts for work in 2022: a green and pink paisley skirt just below the knee

I don’t think I fully realized how many beautiful prints Dries van Noten have for skirts — they’re definitely expensive (this one is $1,295), but they’d be one of my first brands to check out if you like pretty patterns. This marble print pencil skirt with “groovy shades” that are $1,295 at Nordstrom. (Neiman Marcus also has a ton of fine Dries van Noten skirts.)

Other splurge options for skirts include this pretty one pencil midi skirt from McQueenflippy one from Akristhis sweater one from Loro Pianaand this asymmetric from Stella McCartney (and this patchwork knit midi skirt!).
