By now you’ve probably teased your summer favourites: the linen dress, the white trousers, the whisper-weight blouse that goes with everything. As fall approaches, you may feel the urge to retreat these workhorses to the furthest corners of your closet. Do not. Instead, try styling them in new ways that will work in cooler weather. Below, four sartorial strategies to help you bridge the seasons.
Black separates that you may have split up in the summer can be worn together for a more serious feel. A burgundy belt, a textured tote and lugged loafers add a refined edge.
Add a light layer
Throw a quilted jacket over the G. Label dress you’ve been living in for the past month to add warmth on a crisp day. Heavy Chelsea boots offset the femininity of the (very cute) frill collar.
Turn up the contrast
These wide legs are too good to stash away after Labor Day. Wear them with a black blouse and nice leather boots – because black and white is a classic pair that works all year round.
Weave in texture
Keep your cargo pants in rotation with a creamy knit vest and shearling-lined slip-ons. Drive the look home with a dash of gold at the wrist and a crossbody in canvas and camel leather.
