The pieces our fashion team keeps coming back to

Recently, on the walk to lunch, an editor remarked that she has been repurchasing the same pair of sandals every summer for the past few years. Which got the rest of us thinking: What is it that you can’t stop buying? Here are five editors’ proven picks – the pieces that, despite trend churn, will always have a place in our wardrobes.

I always buy some variation of these baggy, flared leg pants – I own all of the ones below and many more. They’re great for travel, the office (a little cooler than your average jeans), even weekends. I usually tuck something in to give me a waist and balance out the wide legs. Best of all, they work with sandals, flats, sneakers – whatever.

Somewhere between discovering Waldo as a child and becoming obsessed with Jane Birkin as a teenager, I fell in love with the striped shirt. Lucky for me, we’ve just launched the perfect one: it’s light enough to wear in the sun, and the long sleeves are perfect for summer evenings. I’ll pair mine with structured shorts to elevate it from casual to French-girl chic.

I’m a hanger girl. I own them in all shapes and sizes, from teensy to oversize. So here’s some information I’ve gathered over the years: If you’re looking for a Goldilocks pair (not too big, not too small), grab them. Laura Lombardi makes cute — and affordable — options out of recycled brass, which is cool. And if you’re looking for something on the heavier side: Patches that support patches occupation. Recently I saw these silver rings from Spinelli Kilcollin – they would complement mine Petunia ring nice.

I live for voluminous dresses with puff sleeves – especially poplin dresses. I love how they can be worn casual (to the office with a flat sandal) or dressed up with a heeled sandal, jewelry and a fun lip. They are a no-brainer in my book.

White dresses are a hard-working staple in my closet – and yes, I’m a fan of wearing white all year round. Besides being a one-step outfit, a white dress always looks pristine and polished. Whether the silhouette is airy, body-hugging or utility-oriented, the effect is the same: effortlessly chic.
