Gift guide 2022: Teenagers, parents-in-law and teachers | Cup of Jo

Who’s left on your Christmas shopping list? There are always a few people who are hard to buy for, and you told us that the gift givers who surprise you the most are teenagers, in-laws, grandparents and teachers. SO, here are a bunch of ideas, most of which are under $30…

Teenagers are famously hard to shop for (so many strong opinions! so many ways to screw it up!), so we texted five cool kids to get the inside scoop. “Gift cards to coffee shops in their college town,” suggested 19-year-old Abby. “And I love Drunk Elephant’s cleanser and this vegan milk cleanser.” Meanwhile, 14-year-old Leon shared his own wish list:Vans novelty socks, an Eastern Dane, and some radical survival stuff.” If all else fails? Get a Yes Yes. Everyone from my nine-year-old child to my 71-year-old father immediately wants to “rock the baby” and “walk the dog.”

“Teachers make the world go round” is an understatement. (Example: Anton’s teacher brought a drum pad into the classroom break area because, as she told him, “drummers have to drum.”) Share your appreciation with thank-you notes or children’s drawings, says a teacher named Kristyn: “I pin them behind my desk to encourage me on hard days and remind me why I love my job.” Also, “emailing our bosses to share an anecdote about something we did for your child is THE BEST,” adds Whitney. Remember, “Teachers have all the mugs,” says Katie, but the kids can do no wrong, says Sarah: “A magazine your child has found will make me cry every time.”

For the in-laws, food gifts are always a solid choice – e.g Greek olive oil or the most delicious cookies we had the whole year. If you have little guys, pamper their grandparents a neck warmer or scarf for sledding dates. And if your in-laws are addicted to true crime podcasts or The White Lotus, give them this murder mystery book solve. Finally, a donation helping people thrive is always a beautiful thing.

thoughts? Are these useful? Other stumpers on your list?
