The Hunt: The Best Bodysuits for Work Outfits –

Yes, we all know what wardrobe essentials for work professional women are supposed to have in their closets, but if you’re buying one for the first time or replacing one you’ve worn down, finding just the right incarnation in stores can be a pain. in”the hunt,” we search the stores for a basic item that every woman should have.

One of the big trends of the past two years or so has been the rise of work-appropriate bodysuits – so we thought we’d round up the best bodysuits for work outfits!

For my $0.02, if you’re a fan of bodysuits, there are tons of great ways to wear them to work. They can be a really easy, sleek, polished look, especially when paired with wide leg pants, flared skirts and more.

A few caveats about wearing bodysuits with work clothes (ie, things no one else will tell you to consider):

  • Crazy cleavage is never appropriate for work — some of the more somber looks may require a camisole or demi camisole.
  • Take care of your underwear — if your lace bra shows up, you can choose a T-shirt bra instead. Similarly, if avoiding VPL is important to you, be sure to test bodysuits before wearing them with work clothes.
  • Yes, feel free to wear your regular thongs/panties/underwear with them – if you go commando, I suspect most garments don’t last that long.

For anyone saying, DO YOU CARE, there’s no way I’m wearing a bodysuit to work, I’ve shared my theory before: Denim styles affect workwear styles because you end up buying new tops for new denim shapes, and in turn end up wanting to wear the newer tops to work.

As looser, more voluminous bottoms come into fashion, tighter tops like bodysuits are EVERYWHERE. (So are cropped tops, but here’s why you probably shouldn’t wear a crop top to work.)

a body that looks like a blouse

I think a drapey blouse is a really elegant look for a body — the only trick is to make sure the wrap look doesn’t open up too much.

Paige (pictured, also available at Nordstrom) has a ton of gorgeous bodysuits like this one, but you can also find them from Paige, Favorite daughter, Free peopleand Good American.

Looking for budget-friendly options to try the trend? Sample Express, Alfani, Eloquii, Donna Karan, Amazonand Gap.

WHOA. Collared blouse bodysuits are back, ladies.

These were all the rage a thousand years ago (Victoria’s Secret made them!), and then they disappeared for a while.

Saks is particularly in line with them at the moment – check it out Wolford (the picture), Lafayette 148 New York, Alaïaand Sarah Roka. Nordstrom also has a few off Good American and Donna Karan.

(This body suit at Amazon, has the look of a popover blouse if you’re on the hunt, and Venus has a ton of really affordable options – and they come in plus sizes!)

classic turtleneck bodysuit

Is there anything more classic than a nice turtleneck? These are a nice variation on the more basic T-shirt styles that look great at work, especially with some of the wider pants that are coming back.

You can make them up Madewell (the one pictured is a bestseller, XXS-3X) as well as from Everlane, Command, Spanxand Yummie and Wolford. (This Wolford is especially a bestseller.)
