Rihanna probably wore the most controversial skirt style of all

Considering how popular trends like nude dresses, visible strapsand goes well, without pants These days, it’s getting harder and harder to create controversy when it comes to fashion. And still, Rihanna did just that by wearing the one trend I personally never thought would make a true comeback: High-low hemlines. However, leave it to the Fenty founder to make the recurring silhouette feel modern, and even more shockingly, cool.

Out to celebrate A$AP Rocky’s whiskey brand Mercer & Prince at The Fleur Room in Los Angeles, Rihanna paired a gloved velvet bodysuit by Melitta Baumeister with a Rick Owens faux leather skirt with a high-low hem and train. Along with the daring duo, she added a Tom Ford for Gucci handbag, a Celine hoodie and strappy heels that laced halfway up her legs. A far cry from the jewel-toned high-low dresses we wore to practically every high school dance in the early 2010s (or was that just me?), the look is single-handedly paving the way for a comeback of the cut.

Still, it won’t be easy to welcome high-low hemlines back into our wardrobes after all this time. To return to style, shop it more approachably asymmetrical skirts below.
