Laverne Cox’s nude dress is the definition of fashion meets art

Laverne Cox opted for an intricate Iris van Herpen gown New York City Ballet’s Annual Fall Fashion Gala on Sept. 28. Fresh from hosting 2022 Emmys red carpet, the “Inventing Anna” star picked the look from the Dutch designer’s 2017 Couture collection. Made of silver thread-like material, the dress featured dozens of razor-sharp cutouts that created a see-through effect. Sleeveless with a high neckline and asymmetrical skirt, the avant-garde number fits Cox as if it was custom-made to hug her curves.

Assisted by stylist Christina Joy Pacelli, Cox accessorized with clear pointed-toe pumps, geometric diamond Dries Criel earrings, and Kismet by Milka rings. The true highlight was the chrome handbag she carried to the event. Comes from an Austrian brand called Published by, the mini purse was shaped like a large reflective stone with a built-in top handle and an additional leather strap attached. The unique piece perfectly complemented the futuristic aesthetic Cox was going for.

After the gala, Cox expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to rock one of van Herpen’s iconic designs for the evening. “As a long time fan of @irisvanherpen I am so honored and humbled to have been given an Iris creation last night for the ballet,” she wrote Instagram. “Truly where fashion meets art.”

Cox was in stylish company at the mid-week soirée, which honored the NYC Ballet Vice Chair Sarah Jessica Parker, in addition to renowned fashion designers and choreographers. Julia Fox walked the red carpet in a foil effect Zac Posen dress with voluminous sleeves and a sweeping train, while Billy Porter paired a Giles Deacon archive dress with platform heels. Other notable attendees included Solange Knowles, Queen LatifahKristin Davis and Gwendoline Christie.
