Drama Be Damned, the ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ men are still getting dressed

Make no mistake: there is a huge amount of talk about Don’t worry honey, director Olivia Wilde’s sophomore feature, as excitement surrounding the film and its stars — among them Florence Pugh, Harry Styles and Chris Pine — erupted during its premiere at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend. Set against the glamor of Venice by the sea, the loud silences, speculated expectationsand pointed Instagram captions take on a new patina, turning the whole deal into a kind of high-fashion, high-drama cinéma vérité spectacle.

But there’s one thing we don’t have to worry about Don’t worry honey front: boring red carpet fashion. The film’s leading men – Styles, Pine, plus comedian Nick Kroll – all bring their own wacky, classic and edgy takes on formalwear to the occasion.

Styles and Pine, who may or may not have exchanged an oddly invective interaction after the credits rolled, wore nearly opposite interpretations of the retro-modern suit to the premiere. Styles, still in his groovy Harry’s house bag, rolled up in head-to-toe Gucci; the exaggerated scoop-sized lapels (sugar, not wafer) on his baby blue shirt hung down over his navy double-breasted, exaggerated shoulder jacket, which all felt very Harry Goes Gucci Goes Hollywood. (Wilde, who dates Styles, also wore a full Gucci look, and the label’s creative director Alessandro Michele walked the carpet.) Kroll introduced a third shade of blue into the mix with his cobalt Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo.

Meanwhile, Pine continued his streak as Hollywood’s freakiest gentleman in a cocoa brown Ralph Lauren jacket and matching bow, as well as a pair of classic Ray-Bans, who ended up at the center of the drama. But that’s another concern for another day.
