Greta Gerwig’s live-action “Barbiestars Margot Robbie as the iconic character and Ryan gosling as boyfriend Ken. Goosebumps even bleached his hair platinum blonde to slide into the look. Warner Bros. films that released official stills on June 15 have begun filming in LA and Venice Beach, California, where we’ve got a glimpse of the incredible costume design from Jacqueline Durran that made waves with her work for “Spencer”, “Little Women” and the live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast”. While the previous project, contributing Kristen Stewartinvolved in close collaboration with the Chanel Couture House, there will likely be plenty of studio-made pieces for “Barbie,” as evidenced by the unique look Robbie and Gosling have already been seen in.
A first look at Barbie’s retro style shows Robbie sitting in her iconic convertible wearing a blue-white-striped halter top with a cute neckline; a thick, dotted headband; and a chunky pearl bracelet. Meanwhile, Ken gets his own Calvin Klein-inspired branded underwear where the waistband looks prominent from his denim-on-denim coordinates. The pair also wore western rodeo outfits, complete with fringe and intricate embroidery, as well as neon 90s roller skate sets – and the complementary his-and-her costumes will certainly not end there.
Gerwig’s “Barbie” is partly responsible for the excitement around Barbiecore aesthetics in fashionwhich is also based on the resurgence of popular 90s and Y2K trends. With stars like Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly serves pink looks on the red carpet and Cardi B and Lizzo wearing pink from head to toe on the street, Barbie fashion inspiration is everywhere this season.
