Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter, Apple Martin, sat front row for the unveiling of the Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2023 collection, marking her first ever runway show. On Jan. 24 event took place during Paris Fashion Week, which has already seen appearances by the likes of Kylie Jenner and Doja cat at Schiaparelli, and Anya Taylor-Joy at Dior. 18-year-old Martin, whose father is a Coldplay musician Chris Martin, arrived in a classic tweed black-and-white check suit from the fashion house, which she accessorized with block-heeled loafers; a miniature crossbody flap bag with a playful pearl strap; a delicate Coco necklace; and sparkling heart drop earrings. Parting her long blonde hair in the middle, Martin opted for a heavily lined eye, peach lip and ballet pink manicure.

The outfit wasn’t all that different from what Paltrow wore at the Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2016 show: a cropped jacket with gemstone embellishment and matching pleated midi skirt in the same palette. The lookalike mother and daughter duo can now both be considered muses of the brand, with fashion editor Derek Blasberg apparently confirming the budding relationship on Instagram: “Karl Lagerfeld met Apple Martin when she was 4 years old and declared she wanted to be a Chanel girl one day. It happened today! 🍎🤍🇫🇷,” he wrote, further commenting under his caption: “The proud guncle feeling 😍.”

The debut line consisted largely of neutral colors with embroidery of the animal world imagined by the artist Xavier Veilhanwho has now worked together with the creative director Virginia Viard on three separate projects. Kittens, corgis, rabbits and swallows were sewn onto skirts and dresses, and even the final bridal look that ended the show, which was complete with a veil cover. The lineup of models was noticeably lacking in body diversity, but they burst onto the stage behind the monument-style animal carvings Veilhan installed on the catwalk, made to depict a village square.

The front row also included Chanel regulars Sadie Sink, Lucy Boynton, Marion Cotillard, Vanessa Paradis and Tilda Swinton, all of whom opted for sparkling tweed designs and statement-making accessories for their close-ups.
